Influence of tillage practices on the structure of the terra-roxa-legítima

Soil samples taken from experimenial plots that had been submitted to different tillage practices tor 13 years were used for studies os their structure. The results obtained showed that for the terra-roxa-legilima, a soil highly structured, intensive tillage practices reduced the diameter (geometric mean) of soil aggregates. For the two-plowing treatment the diameter of the aggregates was 0.45 mm, whereas for the one-plowing and hoeing treatments their sizes were 0.70 mm and 0.95 mm, respectively. Taking the soil structure into consideration, it is concluded that for the terra-roxa-legítima, moderate tillage paclices are to be recommended.
