Open-access General appreciation on the chemical characteristics variation of soil units from the experiment station of Limeira, SP

The relative frequences of distribution of the various chemical characteristics, Ca2+, Mg2+, Ca2+/Mg2+, K+, Al3+, exchangeable cations, cation exchange capacity, base saturation and pH in water for samples from the top soil and 50 cm depth are presented for the soil units Goiabeira, Limeira, Transição, Boneca and Represa. The work is based on the chemical analysis of 122 samples from 61 sites, collected for the soil survey of the Estação Experimental de Limeira, SP. In order to give a better idea, tables were included, containing the percentual distributions of the studied sites as well as the maximum and minimum values for each chemical characteristics. These percentages are refered to some arbitrarily selected levels. The present study shows that the delimitation of a soil population based mainly on morphological features, even when at the series level; can produce soil units with relative wide variation in the chemical characteristics, despite the units presenting a certain uniformity. The results allow the conclusion that any agronomic research to study the plant behavior to various treatments closely related to soil characteristics, needs a well applied statistical methodology associated with a detailed soil survey. So, the possible odd results caused by the variations of the soil characteristics, can be absorbed.
