ABSTRACT
In this paper we apply the Communicative Competence model proposed by Cantero (2008) to teach the politeness intonation of Spanish for brazilians, focusing mainly on the development of strategic and cultural competences. Based on the review of the politeness and impoliteness intonation of Spanish and the prelingual intonation features of Spanish spoken by brazilians, we aim at offering some methodological examples in the teaching of the courteous intonation. The purpose is to develop strategic and cultural competences in order to prevent linguistic and cultural diversity from being a source of misunderstanding and incomprehension between Spaniards and Brazilian Spanish speakers while cultivating personal relationships.
