The relationship between literature and research is of a conflicting nature. If on the one hand without the idea of research it is impossible for literary studies to be established as an academic discipline, on the other, when it becomes a prevalent practice, research tends to disfigure both literary works and readers. This article aims at characterizing concisely the force field brought about by the rise of research in several of its most relevant traits, from the structure of the interpretative act to the broader functioning of educational apparatuses.
