Abstract
The article proposes a critical review of European literature of mediatization, specifically the social-constructivist approach. The main goal is to highlight that research in this field has often disregarded the contradictions that permeate mediatization by idealizing the sociocultural transformations resulting from it. The central arguments of authors who approach the concept on micro, meso, and meta-level are recovered, pointing out its theoretical-methodological gaps and highlighting other fruitful investigative keys to grasping the ambivalences that cross media-saturated societies.
