Open-access Discipline, biopolitics, and education: A balance regarding foucaultian studies in education

Abstract

The introduction of life into politics, and the positioning of the Nation-State as a form of political and social order, made of education a fundamental scenario in the consolidation, perfection, and development, of the emerging mechanics of power. Likewise, the educational apparatuses decidedly operated in the fixation of the idea of the common good as a horizon of normalization. Faced with the growing amplitude of studies and appropriations of the Foucaultian notions in this scenario, a documental search regarding the notions of discipline and biopolitics becomes urgent. This review is done in order to examine the relations between the institution of the State as an apparatus that governs life in the Modernity, and the expansion of the educational machinery.
