Open-access Data analysis of the prevalence of dental caries in Campinas city (S. Paulo, Brazil) after ten years of water fluoridation

Data of four surveys of dental caries prevalence of children 4 to 14 years old in Campinas city (S. Paulo State, Brazil) were analysed to verify the reductions observed in the permanent and primary teeth during the period of ten years of water fluoridation. The reductions of dental caries prevalence observed are similar to the ones obtained in the pilot studies done in USA and Brazil, and were of 66% in the permanent dentition and 53% in the primary one. In the age groups of 6 to 10, 25% of children do not have any primary teeth attacked by caries, and 36% are in equal condition as regards to permanent teeth.
