Open-access THE ITAMAR FRANCO GOVERNMENT AND THE 1988 DEMOCRACY

Abstract

The article examines the Itamar Franco government (1992-1994) as part of the political transition process, focusing on the period prior to the constitutional review of october 1993 and to the Real Plan. It highlights how that government articulated itself with the social and political forces present in that situation, in order to continue the process of reorganizing public finances and economic liberalization initiated during the Fernando Collor de Mello government and to start to make effective the social dimension of 1988 democracy.
