In this article we link the deconstruction of the sex/gender distinction, as proposed by Judith Butler, with issues presented in the film The skin I live in (Spanish, La Piel que Habito) by Pedro Almodovar. We address gender dysforia as a diagnostic category, and the essencialization of the male/female binary, in order to discuss gender normativity and the subject's autonomy regarding social norms.
