SUMMARY
Droplets of lipid nature, 1-10 μ in diameter, are present in the cytoplasm of leaf cells of many Rubiaceae plants.
In ultra-thin sections, examined by meanes of the electron microscope, they appear structureless, with a relatively electron transparent content in most of the studied genera (Cinchona, Coffea, Ixora, Gardenia, Genipaand Psychotria). Usually these droplets are surrounded by a dense line, the nature of which is not clear as yet.
In some species of Coffea (C. arabica, C. eugenioides, C. dewevreiandC. racemosa), however, lipid droplets contained bundles of sinuous tubular elements, about 40 mμ, in diameter and undetermined length.
