EDITORIAL

The present issue of the Neotropical Entomology, volume 33, number 1, 2004, constitutes the beginning of the bimonthly edition of the journal. We are adding two issues per year to accelerate the publication of the increasing number of articles submitted. This demand demonstrates the great role the journal represents in the entomological field in Brazil and also in the Neotropical Region. At its creation, by the Entomological Society of Brazil - SEB, in 1972, with the title of Annals of the Entomological Society of Brazil, the journal was published once a year until 1975. From this date, the number of articles required two issues a year, and this took place up to 1991. New additions occurred in 1992, when the journal was published thirdly and in 1998, quarterly. In 2001, following the world tendency, more changes occurred. A new title was assigned - Neotropical Entomology - more concerned to its representativeness and a new format was adopted, aiming to adjust the journal to international standards and to increase the number of published papers.

In 2002, the Editorial Board of the Neotropical Entomology concluded that a new input was necessary to speed the publication process. As a result a plan was outlined to start 2004 with six issues per year. With great pleasure, we have accomplished this compromise to divulge with quality and promptness the research results on Entomology and Acarology, favoring the dissemination of new knowledge and production of suitable and efficient technologies.
